This is a great opportunity to apply what you've learned about public health, education, marketing and/or communications to cancer risk reduction education and empowerment programs. We are a non-profit focused on promoting health and wellness as a way to reduce breast cancer risk (and risk of recurrence) in diverse, low-income communities. Our target audiences are parents of young children, teens, young adults, and breast cancer “survivors”. Primary topics include physical activity, healthy eating, sleep hygiene, stress management, social support, and environmental chemical exposure. We hope to expand our emphasis on community-level approaches to these issues.

Tasks will include:

  • Developing and implementing a materials dissemination plan
  • Identifying new partners to expand outreach
  • Writing content for website, social media and newsletters
  • Assisting with website updates
  • Coordinating social media postings and helping analyze impact
  • Researching grant opportunities
  • Coordinating grant application processes
  • Representing ZBC at events, including tabling
  • Collaborating on organizational and program development


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience and/or coursework in public health (health education, health literacy, and/or project management)
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening, verbal and written English
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, youTube)
  • Understanding of social determinants of health
  • Sensitivity to competing demands in underserved populations
  • Awareness of differences in cultures and cultural values
  • Spanish language a plus

Important Information:

ZBC’s office is in San Rafael, CA. This position starts at 24 hours/week, with the potential to increase. The starting salary is $18-20/hour + health benefits.
