Judge William H. Stephens (RET) Marin County Superior Court served as a member of the Marin County Judiciary for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1999. He served on the Executive Board of the California Judges Association for the term 1995-98 and served as its Vice-President in the 1997-998 term.

In addition to his membership and participation in other professional associations, such as the American and National Bar Associations, Judge Stephens served in other civic and nonprofit organizations during and prior to his service on the bench. He was Chairman of the Marin County Human Rights Commission, President of the Marin County Legal Aid Society, and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, the Family Service Agency, and the Marin Justice Council. He currently is a Commissioner on the Marin County Personnel Commission.

Judge Stephens was motivated to join the Board of Zero Breast Cancer in 2003, having lost his life partner to breast cancer two years previously.
